A plain iframe. Works everywhere, including site builders that strip scripts. Adjust height if your content needs more room.
<div data-a2z-widget="au-public-holidays" data-height="1414"></div> <script async src="https://a2z.tools/embed.js"></script>
Adds a small script (what it does) that sizes the widget to fit its content, loads it lazily and keeps it isolated from your page's CSS.

How it works
Each date comes from the rule in that jurisdiction's statute rather than a typed list: Easter by the Gregorian computus, King's Birthday on the second Monday in June (first Monday in October in Queensland), Labour Day on the first Monday in October in NSW, SA and the ACT, the second Monday in March in Victoria and Tasmania (Eight Hours Day), the first Monday in March in WA and the first Monday in May in Queensland and the NT. Weekend rules differ and are applied exactly: NSW and Victoria add a Monday or Tuesday after a weekend Christmas or Boxing Day, Tasmania moves Boxing Day itself, Queensland, the ACT and the NT move Anzac Day only from a Sunday, and WA adds a Monday for either weekend day. Days fixed by proclamation or gazette - Victoria's AFL Grand Final Friday, WA's King's Birthday, NT show days, the NSW Anzac Mondays of 2026 and 2027 - appear only for years an official page lists, and a note says what is missing. Part-of-state days such as the Ekka or Royal Hobart Regatta are marked.
Method
- Easter Sunday: Meeus/Jones/Butcher Gregorian computus; Good Friday = Easter - 2, Easter Monday = Easter + 1
- nth Monday of a month = first day + (1 - weekday of the 1st + 7) mod 7 + 7(n - 1)
- Australia Day on a Saturday or Sunday: the following Monday instead (all states and territories)
- Christmas / Boxing Day on a weekend: additional Monday or Tuesday (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, ACT, NT, WA); Tasmania moves Boxing Day itself
- Ekka: Wednesday of the show, which starts on the first Friday in August, or the second Friday when the first is before 5 August
Worked examples
NSW 2026
Inputs: State NSW; year 2026
Result: Anzac Day Saturday 25 April plus an additional day Monday 27 April; Boxing Day Saturday 26 December plus Monday 28 December
Matches the NSW Government list for 2026.
Queensland 2027
Inputs: State QLD; year 2027
Result: Anzac Day Monday 26 April; Ekka Wednesday 11 August (Brisbane area); King's Birthday Monday 4 October
25 April 2027 is a Sunday; the show starts Friday 6 August.
Tasmania 2026
Inputs: State TAS; year 2026
Result: Boxing Day observed Monday 28 December (not 26 December); Royal Hobart Regatta Monday 9 February (south only)
Tasmania's Act moves Boxing Day itself; WorkSafe Tasmania lists the same dates.
Limitations
- Local holidays (most show days, Bank Holiday in NSW, regional NT and Tasmanian days other than those listed) are not included; part-of-state days that are shown are labelled.
- Gazetted and proclaimed days are listed only for years an official page names; later years are rule-based and may change.
- One-off holidays declared at short notice (such as a national day of mourning) cannot be predicted.
- "Next holiday" uses the visitor's device date.
Where publishers use it
- A Melbourne cafe's website listing the days it closes, including Melbourne Cup Day
- A national payroll provider's help centre with a separate holiday list for each state
- A Brisbane school or childcare centre showing the Ekka and King's Birthday dates
- A Perth tradie's booking page that needs WA Day and the WA King's Birthday
- A travel blog planning long weekends across states for 2027
Questions
Why does Anzac Day get a Monday in some states but not others?
The Acts differ. Queensland, the ACT and the NT move Anzac Day to Monday only when 25 April is a Sunday; WA adds a Monday for a Saturday or Sunday; Victoria, SA and Tasmania never replace it; NSW declared extra Mondays for 2026 and 2027 by order.
Is Melbourne Cup Day a holiday across Victoria?
Yes - it is a statewide public holiday on the first Tuesday in November, unless a non-metropolitan council has arranged an alternative local holiday for its area. The widget shows it with that caveat.
When is King's Birthday?
The second Monday in June everywhere except Queensland (first Monday in October) and Western Australia, where it is proclaimed each year - 28 September 2026 and 27 September 2027 - and some regional towns hold it on another day.
Why is the AFL Grand Final Friday missing for 2027?
Victoria's Act makes it the Friday before the Grand Final, but the date depends on the AFL fixture. Business Victoria has not yet published it for 2027, so the widget lists it only for 2026 (25 September).
What are part-day holidays?
South Australia and the Northern Territory make 7pm to midnight on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve a public holiday; Queensland does the same from 6pm on Christmas Eve. They are labelled Part day.
Which years can be shown?
2024 to 2035. The rules apply to every year, but years after the latest official list are flagged as provisional, and Western Australia's 2028 dates await its public holiday review.
