Reel Maker is a preview

Turns a clip into a captioned 9:16 vertical video with a waveform and safe-zone framing. This mode has no working backend yet, so nothing is generated or uploaded when you select it - it will switch on here the moment it ships.

What a rendered Reel will look like

A static preview of the planned output - not a live editor. Nothing here is generated from your file yet.

9:16 shown - 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 will use the same caption and safe-zone system.

A clip is not the same thing as a Reel

A podcast clip is an excerpt - typically audio, sometimes with the original video track, but with nothing added. A Reel is a produced video: burned-in captions timed to the words being spoken, an active-word highlight so the caption is easy to follow with sound off, a waveform so the video still feels alive during quieter moments, and a safe-zone-aware layout so a platform's own UI never covers the speaker or the caption. Turning a clip into a Reel means rendering a new video file, not just relabelling the audio.

What this tool does

Once live, it will render a chosen clip as a vertical (or square, or landscape) MP4 with burned-in captions, a waveform and cover-art background.

Accepted input

An uploaded audio or video file up to 500 MB, or a clip selected from Smart Clips once that mode ships.

Expected output

A downloadable MP4 file at your chosen aspect ratio, with captions and waveform already rendered in - not a set of instructions to add them yourself.

How to use it, once it ships

1

Upload or pick a clip

Add your episode, or start from a clip Smart Clips has already found.

2

Choose an aspect ratio

9:16 for Reels/Shorts/TikTok, 1:1 or 4:5 for feed posts, 16:9 for standard video.

3

Render and download

Get an MP4 with captions and waveform already burned in, ready to publish yourself.

A realistic example

A 45-second insight clip from an interview becomes a 9:16 MP4: the guest's photo or a solid background behind them, captions appearing a few words at a time with the currently-spoken word highlighted, a thin waveform along the bottom, and the show's logo tucked into a corner outside the safe zone.

Limitations

  • Not available to run yet - this page shows the intended interface and output only.
  • No direct publishing to any platform is planned - you download the MP4 and post it yourself.
  • Caption accuracy will depend on transcript accuracy; review before publishing.

Privacy and retention

  • Files uploaded for Transcript today are held only long enough to transcribe them, then removed by routine cleanup.
  • Nothing is uploaded for Reel rendering specifically, since that mode does not yet exist.
  • Only process content you own or have permission to use.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Podcast to Reels Converter available to use right now?

Not yet. Reel rendering is shown as a preview; selecting Reel Maker will not process your file. Transcript and Subtitles, on the same page, are live today.

What is the difference between a clip and a Reel?

A clip is an audio (or audio-plus-video) excerpt. A Reel is a rendered MP4 video file with burned-in captions, a waveform and cover art - something built for vertical feeds, not just a trimmed audio file.

What aspect ratios will be supported?

9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, plus 1:1 and 4:5 for feed posts, and 16:9 for standard video.

What is a safe zone?

The area of a vertical video that stays clear of a platform's own UI - profile pictures, captions, share buttons - so nothing important in your Reel gets covered.

Will this publish directly to Instagram or TikTok?

No. The plan is to produce a downloadable MP4 file you publish yourself - direct publishing is not part of this tool.

Does Reel rendering work on my file today?

No. Only Transcript and Subtitles are connected to a working backend. Upload a file to get a timestamped transcript now; Reel rendering will use that same upload once it ships.
