Price List Widget Widget

Publish your services and prices as a clean list with dotted leaders, grouped by category, with durations and short notes. Prices follow your currency and locale, keep "from" prices and ranges, and a booking button can sit underneath.

How it works

Write "## Category" lines and service lines in the form service | price | duration | note. The price cell is read in five ways: a plain amount (45 or 1,200.50), a starting price (from 45, starting at 45), a range (40-60, 40 to 60 or with an en dash, low before high) and an open price (45+); each is formatted with the currency and locale chosen in the builder, so from 45 becomes from $45 in the US and from 45 € in Germany, and whole amounts show no decimals. Anything else - Free, POA, Quote on request, or an amount typed with its own symbol - is printed exactly as written, and a reversed range such as 60-40 is left untouched instead of being reinterpreted. On frames 420 pixels and wider the name and price are joined by a dotted leader; narrower, the price drops onto its own line. Durations appear as small chips. With more than 20 services a labelled search box filters by name, note, duration and category and announces how many match. It is not a restaurant menu: there are no dietary marks or dish photos.

Method

  • Line format: "## Category" and "service | price | optional duration | optional note"
  • Price "45" -> money(45); "from 45" -> "from " + money(45); "40-60" -> money(40) + en dash + money(60); "45+" -> money(45) + "+"
  • Decimals: 0 when every amount in the cell is whole, else 2; any other text is shown verbatim
  • Search shown when services > 20: every word of the query must appear in name, note, duration or category

Worked examples

Salon in pounds

Inputs: Currency GBP; Women's cut | 58 | 60 min; Blow-dry | from 30; Highlights | 110-150 | 2.5 h; Patch test | Free

Result: £58, from £30, £110–£150, Free

Whole amounts drop the decimals; Free is text and stays as typed.

Clinic in US dollars with decimals

Inputs: Currency USD; Initial assessment | 1,200.50; Follow-up | 19.99-25

Result: $1,200.50 and $19.99–$25.00

A range containing a non-whole amount shows two decimals on both ends.

Limitations

  • Prices are whatever the publisher types; there is no tax calculation, discounting or online payment.
  • One currency per list - a multi-currency price list needs one widget per currency.
  • No dietary marks, photos or add-to-basket buttons; it is a service list, not a menu or a shop.

Where publishers use it

  • A hair or beauty salon's price page with cuts, colour and treatments and a Book online button
  • A physiotherapy or dental clinic listing assessment, follow-up and treatment fees with appointment lengths
  • A photography or recording studio showing hourly rates and packages with from prices
  • A handyman, electrician or cleaner listing call-out fees and typical job ranges such as 80-120
  • A dog groomer or pet-sitting service pricing by size with durations per appointment

Questions

Which price formats are understood?

Plain amounts (45, 45.50, 1,200), starting prices (from 45, From: 45, starting at 45), ranges (40-60, 40 to 60, or 40–60 with an en dash) and open prices (45+). These are formatted in your currency and locale: in pounds sterling from 45 becomes from £45 and 110-150 becomes £110–£150. Text such as Free, POA or Quote on request is shown unchanged, and so is a reversed range like 60-40, which is more likely a typo than a price.

How does the currency get chosen?

In the builder's currency setting; the default locale follows it (pounds use en-GB, rupees en-IN with lakh grouping such as ₹1,50,000), and an explicit locale wins. Do not type the symbol into the price cell: an amount written as $45 is treated as text and printed exactly as typed, whatever currency the widget is set to.

How is this different from a restaurant menu widget?

A menu is about dishes - descriptions, dietary marks such as vegetarian or gluten-free, sometimes photos. A service price list is about time and price: it has a duration column, starting prices and ranges for jobs that vary, and a booking button, and it deliberately has no dietary icons. Use a menu component for food and this one for appointments and services.

When does the search box appear?

Automatically once the list has more than 20 services; shorter lists are easier to scan without one. Every word typed must match somewhere in the service name, note, duration or category, so colour 90 finds a 90-minute colour service. The number of matches is announced to screen readers, and empty categories hide while searching.

Can the booking button go to a phone number or a booking site?

Yes. Give a label and a link: https or http addresses open in a new tab with rel="noopener nofollow", and tel: or mailto: links start a call or an email. Any other kind of link, such as javascript:, is refused and no button is shown.

Should prices include tax?

That is your decision and your local rules. Many countries require prices shown to consumers to include VAT or GST, while US sales tax is usually added at checkout. Use the note line under the list - for example Prices include VAT at 20% - to state what applies.
