Car Listing Card Widget

List one car the way dealer forecourt sites do: a photo with an Available, Reserved or Sold pill, year, make, model and trim, price, a grid of mileage, fuel, gearbox, body, engine, colour and owners, highlights, a finance note in your own words and Call, Email, Enquire and test-drive buttons.

How it works

Enter the make, model, optional trim line, year and price, and the odometer reading in miles or kilometres. The card prints the reading in your unit and the other one beneath it from the exact international mile, 1 mi = 1.609344 km: 24,300 miles also shows 39,107 km, and 100,000 km shows 62,137 miles. Miles is the default for pounds and US dollars, kilometres elsewhere. Fuel, gearbox and body type are fixed choices worded for the market: Petrol and Saloon on a UK site become Gasoline and Sedan with US or Canadian dollars. Owners 0 reads None (new). Highlights are one per line, up to twelve, and extra facts - MOT due, warranty, doors and seats - are Label | value lines. The finance box shows only what you type: a short note and, optionally, the representative example your lender gave you, under that heading. The card never computes a monthly payment or an APR. A Sold car keeps its price struck through and hides the test-drive button.

Method

  • Kilometres = miles x 1.609344; miles = kilometres / 1.609344 (both rounded to whole numbers)
  • Price = Intl currency format in the embed's currency and locale, no decimals for whole amounts
  • Wording: petrol -> Gasoline, saloon -> Sedan, estate -> Station wagon, MPV -> Minivan when the currency is USD or CAD
  • Finance: publisher text only, no calculation

Worked examples

UK hybrid hatchback

Inputs: year 2022; Hartwell Aero 5; price 18995; mileage 24300 miles; currency GBP

Result: 2022 Hartwell Aero 5 - £18,995 - 24,300 miles (39,107 km)

24,300 x 1.609344 = 39,107.06 km.

Kilometre odometer in Australia

Inputs: mileage 100000; distUnit km; currency AUD

Result: Mileage 100,000 km (62,137 miles)

100,000 / 1.609344 = 62,137.12 miles.

US wording

Inputs: fuel petrol; body saloon; currency USD

Result: Fuel Gasoline - Body Sedan

Neutral codes are worded for the market of the currency.

A listing display, not a finance offer or advice. Finance text is shown exactly as the seller enters it and is not checked.

Limitations

  • One car and one photo per card; link the full gallery and history check from Enquire.
  • No finance calculation, valuation or history check: every figure is shown as you enter it.
  • Wording follows the currency (US or Canadian dollars switch to American terms); other regional terms are not localised.

Where publishers use it

  • An independent used-car dealer's site, one card per vehicle on stock pages built in WordPress or Squarespace
  • A private seller's one-page advert linked from a classified listing, with a Call button that opens the phone dialler
  • A car club or enthusiasts' forum showcasing a member's classic for sale with its owner count and service history
  • A franchise dealer's blog post about an ex-demonstrator offer with the lender's representative example quoted in full
  • A fleet or leasing company's remarketing page listing returned vehicles as Reserved once a deposit is taken

Questions

Can the card calculate monthly finance payments?

No, deliberately. A finance figure depends on the lender, deposit, term, fees and the customer's credit, and in the UK credit promotions are regulated: under the FCA's CONC 3.5 rules, quoting a rate or cost of credit generally requires a representative example with the representative APR, total amount of credit, duration, total payable and repayment amounts. Paste the example your lender provides into the representative example field and the card shows it exactly as written.

How are miles converted to kilometres?

With the international mile, defined as exactly 1,609.344 metres, so 1 mile = 1.609344 km. 24,300 miles x 1.609344 = 39,107.06, shown as 39,107 km; 100,000 km / 1.609344 = 62,137.12, shown as 62,137 miles. Choose km as the unit and the card leads with kilometres instead.

Why does my US site say Gasoline and Sedan?

Fuel and body type are stored as neutral codes and worded for the market of the embed's currency. With US or Canadian dollars, petrol reads Gasoline, saloon reads Sedan, estate reads Station wagon, MPV reads Minivan and pickup reads Pickup truck; with pounds, euros and other currencies the British terms are used.

What do Available, Reserved and Sold change?

The pill text and colour - always as words, never colour alone. Reserved keeps every button so buyers can ask to join a waiting list. Sold strikes the price through and hides the test-drive button while Call, Email and Enquire remain, so the card still works as a we-can-find-you-one advert.

Can I show the registration or VIN?

There is no dedicated field, on purpose: many dealers avoid publishing full registrations online. If you want to, add a facts line such as Registration | LB72 XYZ. Never put a buyer's or previous owner's personal details on the card.
